A mobile court in Kaduna has convicted 81 drivers for violating road traffic regulations during a special patrol by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Ibrahim Tanko, FRSC Legal Officer, Kaduna Sector Command, disclosed this on Wednesday in Kaduna in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

Tanko said that the motorists were convicted by a mobile court conducted in Kachia and Kaduna – Zaria toll gate between Dec. 7 and Dec. 9.

He said that 32 motorists were convicted in Kachia, while 49 were convicted in Kaduna–Zaria toll gate.

“The motorists were arrested for overloading, driver’s licence violation; vehicle licence violation; tyre violation; number plate violation and obstructing marshal on duty, among other offences,” he said.

Tanko added that one of the motorists, one Moses Febian, 34, was sentenced to three months imprisonment after being charged with dangerous driving in Kachia.

He explained that Febian was driving a Blue Sharon car with registration number FUN-140 AA, en-route to Kaduna from Kachia when he was arrested.

He said that the mobile court was a routine exercise, being part of FRSC mandate to prosecute traffic offenders with a view to bringing sanity on Nigerian roads.

“FRSC will continue to advise motorists where applicable and would not hesitate to put any driver behind bars who endangers his life and the lives of others.

“We will continue to do all that we can within the limit of the power conferred on us by the act establishing FRSC to ensure the safety of lives and property on our roads,” Tanko said.
