Man gets N50,000 bail over phone theft

An Ikeja Magistrate’s’ Court on Thursday granted N50,000 bail to a 24-year-old man, Mohammed Ahmed, who allegedly stole a Smartphone worth N60,000 in a hotel room.

The accused, who resides in Agege, Lagos, is facing a count charge.

The prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, told the court that the accused stole Techno Boom J8’ from a room in the City Hotel on Ipaja Road, Agege, on Nov. 26.

The prosecutor said that Ahmed stole the phone belonging to Miss Blessing Oyewale.

“Ahmed and Oyewale were lodged in the same hotel but in different rooms; when the complainant woke up from sleep, she discovered that her phone was missing,’’ the prosecutor said.

He said that Oyewale later found out that the phone’s charger was with the accused, who was later arrested.

According to him, the offence contravenes Section 285 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O. Anifowoshe, granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Anifowoshe adjourned the case till Dec. 21 for mention.
