The body, in a statement said it was sorrowfully drawn to the painful, gruesome, despicable, barbaric, senseless and criminal murder of Bakare, saying the body was saddened and condemned “this act of criminality in all its ramifications as we call on the government and the security agencies to act swiftly to apprehend those responsible for this murder of a Nigerian whose life was terminated in the course of his official duty.”
“We recognize that under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the right to life is a fundamental and constitutional right which must not be assaulted or violated by the state or individuals except by a court order based on the rule of law.
“It is in this regard that we frown at the resort to self-help or jungle justice by individuals, groups or even the state for redress on perceived injustices and hereby implore all to adopt civilized and constitutional means for resolving conflicts or crisis which cannot but arise in the course of human engagements, CPPM said in a statement signed by Nelson Ekujumi, its Executive Chairman.
“Our heartfelt condolences goes to the family of this slain officer as we pray God to grant him eternal rest and the family, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. We also condole with the management and staff of the Lagos State Transport Management Authority (LASTMA) over this great loss and urge them not to be intimidated and deterred from the discharge of their statutory responsibility of keeping Lagos traffic moving with dignity which they have always carried out creditably for the collective interest of Lagosians.
“We condole with the government and people of Lagos state who are the collective victims of this barbarism and call for a state burial for Mr. Tajudeen Bakare in order to send out a clear message to the society that service to the people is a service to humanity which will be recognized either alive or posthumously.
“We equally call for a posthumous award to late Mr. Tajudeen Bakare who died in active service as well as payment of necessary compensation to cushion the effect of his loss to his immediate family,” it said.
