A Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ado-Ekiti on Monday sentenced an Islamic cleric, Osupa Adini, to three months imprisonment for stealing and assault.

Adini (49) was convicted on a six-count charge preferred against him by the state.

He was arraigned on Feb. 22, 2010, at 9:45 a.m. along with his wife Yemisi Adini at Adebayo Street, Olorunsogo Zone 5 in Ado-Ekiti.

Adini was charged for conspiracy, stealing, willful damage, assault occasioning harm and giving false information to the police.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Mr. Femi Onipede, who called four witnesses tendered evidence to prove his case.

He said the offence contravened Section 516(A), 390(a) of the Criminal Code, Vol. 11, Laws of Ondo State 1978 as applicable to Ekiti State.

The Defence Counsel, Mr. Rotimi Adabenbe, pleaded for mercy after the court convicted the accused.

Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, discharged Adini’s wife for lack of evidence but sentenced the accused to three months on each of the six-count charge.

The sentence is to run concurrently without an option of fine.
