Man bags N200,000 bail for theft

A Grade 1 Area Court, Karmo, Abuja, on Monday admitted a 48-year-old businessman, Abdullateef Ismaila, to bail in the sum of N200, 000 for alleged criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The Judge, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq, ordered the defendant to produce a surety in like sum and the surety must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the case till Feb. 8, for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Zannah Dalhatu, told the court that one Hajiya Sefiya Abubakar of Sunshine Gwarimpa reported the matter at the Gwarimpa Police Station on Feb. 17, 2016.

He said that the complainant entrusted her Toyota Sienna bus, valued at N1. 25 million to the defendant and promised to remit the money after selling the car.

The prosecutor said after disposing the car, the defendant allegedly converted the money for his personal use.

Dalhatu said that the offence contravened Sections 312 and 322 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence.
