Police arrest 2 kidnap suspects in Benin

The police in Zone 5 comprising of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa, have arrested two suspects who alleged kidnap a couple in Effurun, near Warri, Delta, on Jan. 1.

The Zone’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. Emeka Iheanacho, who made this known in a statement in Benin on Tuesday, said that the suspects were arrested in their hideout.

Iheanacho said that “the suspects at about 0045 hours along DSC Roundabout kidnapped their victim Blessing Dukuye and his wife Joy on their way from new year service.”

He further said that the suspects were arrested in their various hide out on Alaka Area and PTI Road, respectively on Jan. 17 while acting on a tip-off.

The spokesman further said that consequent upon execution of search warrant on the premises of the suspects some items, including arms, ammunitions, charms and cash were recovered from them.

He listed items recovered to, include a lar rifle, Ak 47 rifle, pump action, a brownie pistol, three 7.62mm live ammunition, 15 rounds of Brownie pistol live ammunition.

The others were one 5.58mm live ammunition, two live cartridges, substance suspected to be Indian hemp, cash of N1,08 million, one dynamite, Army camouflage T-shirt as well as some charms.

He said that the suspects had made some useful statement to the police and investigations were ongoing.
