NDLEA tasks schools, religious bodies on anti-drugs campaign

The FCT Command of the NDLEA has called on schools, parents and religious bodies to support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Peter Adegbe, made the call on Wednesday in Abuja.
He said the agency was working round the clock to stamp out drug trafficking in the FCT using increased surveillance.
Adegbe said that apart from surveillance and raids, the agency was also intensifying collaborations with critical stakeholders, including schools and religious bodies to spread the anti-narcotics campaign.
“Aside from our surveillance and routine raids in the FCT, we are also strengthening our collaboration with key stakeholders such as schools, NGOs and religious organisations.
“We are taking our anti-narcotics campaign to schools and religious organisations so as to appeal to the conscience of our youths on the need to stay away from drugs.”
He said that some private schools in the FCT recently came on an excursion to the agency’s office as part of the campaign to enlighten students on the dangers of illicit drugs.
Adegbe expressed his optimism that if the campaign went round schools and the grassroots, the issue of drug abuse and trafficking would be reduced to the barest minimum in the FCT.
The spokesman called on FCT residents to be vigilant and to report any drug activity in their neighbourhoods to the nearest NDLEA office.
