Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Sultan of Sokoto, on Saturday said the annual Quiz competition organised by the Sultanate Council was to secure the future educational development of children in the state.

This, the Sultan said, was to build their capacities to become useful to themselves and the society.

Abubakar said the competition was premised on Sokoto Caliphate’s literature.

The competition is organised by the Sultanate Council of Sokoto in collaboration with Centre for Intellectual Services in Sokoto.

Abubakar was represented by the District Head of Sokoto North, Alhaji Buhari Abubakar III.

The Sultan, who is also the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council of Islamic Affairs, said: “The council sponsors the competition to ensure the academic development of the younger generation.

“This will also be a long lasting initiative to promote intellectual development of the students.

“You are all aware that the quality of the competition and performance by the students has witnessed remarkable improvements over the years through excellent process and encouragement.

“This is a great justification of the resources invested in the competition by the sultanate council,’’ he added.

Abubakar explained that the purpose of the competition was for the children in the state and other members of the community to know the contributions of the caliphate’s leaders and scholars in education.

He added that such invaluable contributions spanned the areas of good governance, politics, implementation of social and criminal justice.

The Sultan further commended Gov. Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State, for focusing on the development and propagation of Islam through the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

He said that the state government had executed a number of projects through the ministry and maintained a good relationship with religious institutions in the state.
