NUJ Oyo State pays tribute to late Alawaye

Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Oyo State Council, on Monday paid tribute to late Tunji Alawaye of Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State(BCOS) who died on Jan.23.

Alawaye, until his death was the General Manager of Oke – Ogun FM Radio Station, Alaga.

Mr Yanju Adegbite, Project Director of BCOS said Alawaye was a complete gentleman and a professional.

Adegbite said the deceased loved challenges, adding that he repositioned the Oke – Ogun FM.

He said death was a necessary end, adding that the NUJ family should ensure that the Alawaye family was looked after.

“He will be happy if we remain generous to his wives and children,’’ he said.

Mr Adewunmi Faniran, the state chairman of the union, described the Alawaye as a “unionist’’, adding that he was courageous, blunt, sincere and transparent in his view and analysis of issues concerning the council.

Faniran said: “Alawaye was a thoroughbred professional, sound and punchy in his days as a reporter, a super editor, presenter and administrator.’’

Mr Gbenga Olokede, Chairman, BCOS chapter of the union, said late Alawaye never hesitated to help his colleagues at BCOS.

Mr Taiwo Alawaye, the deceased’s younger brother, said his late brother gave his life and strength to the media profession, adding that his departure had left a gap in the family and profession.

Delivering a short message at the Islamic Fidau/ Day of Tribute, Dr Abdul- Rahman Awwal, Chief Imam, Odo – Ona Community, enjoined the people to remember death in whatever they do.

Awwal urged the people to perfect their deeds while alive, adding that it was appointed unto man that God’s judgment would follow after death.
