Police arraign 2 brothers for N800,000 fraud

Two brothers, Hassan Moruf, 35, and Hassan Temitope, 30, were on Tuesday arraigned before an Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court, for allegedly defrauding a man of N800,000 meant for the purchase of land.
The two who have no fixed address, are facing a three-count -charge of conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences and stealing.
The accused however pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Emmanuel Kayode, told the court that the accused committed the offences on Dec. 21, 2015 at about 1.30 p.m at Ogboja Village Oluwo-Kessi, in Abeokuta.
Kayode said the duo conspired in defrauding one Lawal Abdullahi of N800,000, by obtaining money under false pretence to sell two plots of land
The prosecutor explained further that the accused persons who were said to be brother and sister, fraudulently converted the money to their personal use and deprive the complaint of the land.
He said the offences contravened sections 516, 419 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs Oriyomi Sofowora granted the accused bail in the sum of N200,000 each with two sureties in like sum.
Sofowora added that the sureties must show evidence of one year tax payment to the Ogun State Government and also their identity cards which should be scrutinised.
She thereafter adjourned the case till Feb. 22 for hearing.
