Federal High Court

After entering a plea of guilty, 21-year-old Sakiru Ajayi, charged with kidnapping a child, was on Thursday in Lagos remanded in Ikoyi Prison.

Ajayi was brought before an Ebute Meta Chief magistrates’ Court on a charge of child stealing.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr A.T. Elais, who gave the ruling, said Ajayi, a dry cleaner, should be kept behind bars till Feb. 6 for facts and sentence.

Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Kehinde Omisakin told the court that Ajayi committed the offence on Jan. 19 at about 11.00 a.m. at Katangowa, Abule-Egba, a Lagos suburb.

Omisakin said the accused kidnapped a four-year-old girl with the intention of using her for “other purposes.”

The offence contravenes Section 275(1)(a) of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2011 which carries a penalty of 14 years imprisonment.
