840 suspected miscreants arrested in Kano

The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Alhaji Rabi’u Yusuf, said the Command had arrested 840 suspected miscreants across the state.
The commissioner disclosed this through the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Magaji Majiya, while presenting the suspects to newsmen on Friday in Kano.
Rabi’u said the arrest followed a tip-off over the increased influx of suspects in the state from the North-East and the neighbouring countries.
“When we received the information about the influx of strangers in the state, our men swung into action to ensure that the state is free from criminals.
“The suspects were arrested in the late hours of Thursday, Feb. 2, while roaming along major roads in the state, claiming to be homeless.
“The success was as a result of collaboration between the police and other security agencies in the state.
“Among the suspects, 544 are males, 112 are females while 111 of the suspects are foreigners from Niger Republic, Sere-Leone, Gambia and Ghana.
“Among those arrested, 53 are from the northeastern part of the country, claiming to be Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), while the females were suspected to be prostitutes,” he said.
He added that 67 underage children were among the miscreants.
According to him, the command will hand over the aliens to the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) for further investigation, while those from the North-East will undergo series of investigation at the command’s headquarters.
