FRSC arrests 421 traffic offenders in Ibadan

No Fewer than 421 people were arrested by the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State for various traffic offences in January.
The Sector Commander, Mr Yusuf Salami, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ibadan on Thursday.
Salami said that 465 offences were committed in January, adding that 150 people were arrested for seat belt violation, 142 others for using expired tyre; 15 for driving without driving licence.
He 41 motorcyclists were for crash helmet violation, 12, overloading, nine for route diversion, and four people for attempting to bribe an officer of the corps.
The sector commander said that two persons were nabbed for dangerous driving, while the remaining 46 people were arrested for minor offences.
He urged motorists to always obey rules and regulation of road traffic in order to avoid been arrested.
According to him, the commission is not interest in giving fine or impounding any vehicle but on the safety of motorists.
Salami said that the Speed limit device was to curb speeding which was one of the major causes of road traffic crashes and not to create hardship for motorists.
He advised motorists who had not installed the device to do so in their own interest as there was no going back on its full implementation.
Salami said that no fewer than 30 vehicles had been arrested and fined since Feb.1 for failure to install speed limit device, adding that the exercise would be a continuous one.
