Mr Donald Obiloun, the Terminal Manager of HBX Nigeria, on Thursday said that timely intervention by fire fighters prevented goods worth N60 million from being lost to fire incidents at the terminal last night.

Obiloun disclosed in Lagos that fire almost engulfed the Kirikiri terminal of HBX last night.

He said that the inferno, which started from make-shift stalls along the terminal perimeter wall, was put out within minutes because the road was accessible.

“Within seconds, fire fighters from Teno Oil, Swit Oil, and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) arrived the scene and put out the fire that would have caused cargo owners millions of naira.

“The fire, through the fence, damaged a container containing the company’s important records,’’ Obiloun said.

According to him, the fire was blazing towards the company’s gasoline reservoir tank before it was put out.

He thanked the fire operatives for their timely response, saying that this was unlike what happened in September when an inferno razed cargoes and commercial ventures as a result of inaccessibility of the road.

The manager said that the company was still investigating the incident to ascertain its cause to stop recurrence.

He appealed to traffic and security operatives working in the area to always ensure that the roads within the terminals were devoid of congestion.
