An Ogudu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State on Thursday sentenced a bus conductor to eight months in prison with no option of fine.

The sentence came after the convict pleaded guilty to stealing two phones worth N77,500 and N9,000 cash.

The convict, Murufu Oyedele, 19, of Agility Street, Mile 12 in Lagos State, was arraigned on one count charge of theft.

Oyedele said that he and his friend, currently at large, were coming from Onipanu when the friend decided to be mischievous, adding that he had never stolen before.

The Magistrate, Mrs O. Sule Amzat, after giving her judgment, advised the convict to desist from such behaviour and learn a trade while serving his punishment.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Lucky Ihiehie, had earlier told the court that Oyedele and one other person, at large, committed the offence on Feb. 27 at Under Bridge, Ojota.

Ihiehe said the complainant, Adeyeni Rasheed, reported the matter at Ogudu Police Station that Oyedele and his friend robbed him in his car in the traffic.

The prosecutor said “Oyedele and the friend just appeared from nowhere and attacked Rasheed in traffic at about 8.30 p.m. while driving toward Mile 12.

“Oyedele’s friend first hit Rasheed’s car and told him he had a flat tyre and when he pulled down the car glass to see the extent of the deflation, the friend put his fingers into the complainant’s eyes and the convict jumped into the vehicle and removed phones and money.”

Ihiehie said the convict took the complainant’s Samsung dual sim phone worth N45,000, a Tecno phone valued at N32,500 and cash sum of N9,000.

He said Oyedele threw the money to his friend who run away but he was later caught with the help of the police and other people around.
