The Oyo State Government has approved the establishment of a Bureau of Planning and Development Control.
Mr Toye Arulogun, the Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, told newsmen in Ibadan on Monday that the bureau would help to modernise the landscape of the state and check indiscriminate construction of physical structures.
“The bureau will engage in urban renewal and physical planning activities. It will deplore its resources to physical infrastructural development of the state.
“One of the cardinal programmes of Gov. Abiola Ajimobi-led administration is to modernise the state. This administration, since inception, has achieved a lot in infrastructural development.
“It is good to note that the mandate of the bureau is in line with Ajimobi’s transformation, restoration and repositioning agenda,” he said.
Arulogun said the state Ministry of Justice had been mandated to give the legal backing required to the bureau which would headed by a Director-General who would report directly to the governor.
The commissioner also allayed the fear of possible duplication of duties and expenses, saying an already existing structure would be made independent.
He said the state government and the World Bank were presently working on the state’s master plan, adding that this would soon be made public.
