Families of 12 policemen in Zone 5 who lost their lives in active service have received monetary compensation totaling N3.2 million.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), in charge of the Zone, Abubakar Mohammed, gave the money to the families at a ceremony held at the headquarters in Benin.

He said the gesture was under the Nigerian Police Group personal accident insurance scheme and group life assurance, adding that the scheme was established to enhance the welfare of officers and men of the force.

He, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, condoled with the families of the beneficiaries who he said lost their lives while on national assignment.

A statement by the spokesman of the Zone, DSP Emmanuel Iheanacho, said there were nine beneficiaries from Edo state, two from Bayelsa and one from Delta state.

Zone 5 is made up of Edo, Delta and Bayelsa states.
