Foreign Affairs Minister Geoffrey Onyeama has said Nigeria and Poland will work toward developing stronger ties between them.

Onyeama expressed the view when he visited his Polish counterpart, Witold Waszczykowski, in Poland, his Media Aide, Sarah Sanda, said in a statement in Abuja on Thursday.

The minister said he was “extremely impressed ” by the economic development of Poland, a country that came out of communist rule 28 years ago.

He noted that Nigeria, an oil producing and exporting country, which had been” hit badly by a drop in oil price” was eager to diversify its economy from a single product economy to be multi-product based.

According to him, Nigeria is looking forward to making Poland one of its new partners in the areas of security, military equipment and training, agriculture, manufacturing and energy.

He noted that Poland produced goods and services of high quality at much cheaper costs, adding: “I think there is a lot that we can gain from each other.”

The minister also met with the Polish Minister of Agriculture Krzysztof Jurgen, and discussed issues around mechanised farming and general industrialisation of the agricultural sector.

Onyeama said there was a need to establish a Bi- National Commission of the two countries to institutionalise dialogue between Nigeria and Poland.
