Police arrest 5 impersonators of Bola Tinubu, others

The Nigeria Police Force says it has arrested 4 suspected fraudsters who are specialists in impersonating public office holders and prominent personalities, including Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The suspects are; Ovie Ogo, 47, gang leader, from Ekpan in Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta, Abdullazeez Eragbe , 40, a native of Ikabigbo in Esako West Local Government Area of Edo, Babatunde Oshamoto,49, a native of Iyamoye, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi and Samuel Idah, 25, native of Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo.

Briefing newsmen on the arrest in Abuja on Thursday, the Force Spokesman, CSP Jimoh Moshood, said the suspects were arrested by the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) and the Technical Intelligence Unit on March 28 in a hotel in Kaduna.

He said that 14 assorted cell phones with registered SIM cards with the names of top Government officials and other prominent Nigerians, extra registered SIM cards, diary containing phone numbers of top government officials and prominent persons in the country

Moshood said the suspects posed as Chief of Staff to President, Senate President, National Security Adviser to President, Minister of Petroleum, Minister of Finance, Minister of Transport, Chief Bola Tinubu, and many other prominent Nigerians.

The four-man notorious syndicate led by one High Chief Ovie Ogo ( Eze Ireoma of Omoku-Rivers) was arrested in a hotel in Kaduna State.

The spokesman said the suspects confessed to the crime and admitted impersonating several prominent citizens and made more than ₦20 million from their criminal acts within the last six months.

“Investigation is being intensified to arrest the other suspects at large while those arrested will be charged to court on completion of investigation.

“The general public is advised to be careful and verify the identity of whosoever they may wish to transact business or relate with.
