The Yobe government on Thursday presented 25 classroom teachers and school principals with certificates of honour for their contribution to the improvement in performance of students in WAEC and NECO examinations.

The State governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Gaidam, who presented the certificates, said the government was impressed with their hard work and commitment to duty.

The governor said his administration would continue to accord the education sector, top most priority in recognition of the sector as an agent of social change.

According to him, the government will devote a greater percentage of the state’s annual budget to cover the capital and recurrent expenditure of the sector.

He commended the State Teaching Service Board for improvement in monitoring of teachers in all schools, which translated to improved productivity.

Earlier, Alhaji Baba Maidala, Executive Secretary, Teaching Service Board, said the state recorded improvement from 4.8 percent in 2015, to 36 per cent in 2017 WAEC and NECO examinations.

Maidala attributed the improvement to the provision of infrastructure and instructional materials by the state government, as well as adequate monitoring of teachers.

He said employment of qualified teachers and enhancement of their welfare by the state government had also contributed to the improvement in the standard of education in the state.
