Foundation to empower girls with skills in Kuje

The President, Latiwa Development Foundation, Mrs Latiwa Amato, on Tuesday pledged to empower 16 less privileged girls in Kuje Area Council of FCT in tailoring.

Amato said this during the Women Empowerment gathering tagged ‘Each Woman makes a difference ‘ in Abuja.

“We are going to support a training of about 15 girls 16 to 18 of age as a startup, a volunteer, designer will take them on the learning process which is scheduled for the last week of April.

“The designer is going to train them, and we are here to raise some money to support this training who will last for six months.

“We intend to get them shops after the six months training and after six months and also we will also support three women by training them in one of fashion academy sponsored by our volunteers,” she said.

Amato said the trained women in the fashion academy would also train six women, saying the three women would be going around in the country to help fellow women and girls for them to be entrepreneurs.

She said the purpose of the event was to provide a platform by bringing women together from different communities in various works of life.

She said the foundation also work in collaboration with other NGOs and embassies to support women and girls.

“The foundation is a group of women different nationalities, we have Nigeria, German, Congolese and others living in Abuja and our message is that wherever you come from no matter your nationality women we have to support each other to help others,” Amato said.

“Women need to wake up, women place is not to stay in the kitchen or only raise the children, together with men we need to stand up and do something for humanity.’’

The Deputy Head of Mission, German Embassy, Amb. Regine Hess, said the embassy had taken up the women empowerment especially orphans.

“We are already giving out money for this orphanage and we are sponsoring the students as well in their education.

“Education is very important and giving excess to education for boys and girls is key,” she said.

The Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Venezuela, Maria Luna advised women to look for in helping other women in their communities.

She also said women should not be weighed down by challenges but it should make them a better person.

The foundation is a NGO which focuses on improving the lives of orphans, disabled and the less privileged in the society by providing them with education, food supplies and healthcare.
