Rivers Angels FC, on Wednesday defeated FC Robo 3-0 in their first home game of the 2016/2017 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Edwin Okon, Technical Adviser, Rivers Angels FC told sports journalists after the match that he was satisfied with the outcome.
Okon said that though his team did not play well in the first half, but was fortunate to overcome the visitors in the second half.
He said they tried as much as possible to ensure that they got he maximum three points in the second half.
“The first half was a beat difficult for us because the zeal to deliver in the first half was not there.
“When we went for the break, I told the players that they need to up their game because we are down, fourth on the log and we need to go up.
“I thank God that we are able to utilise some of the chances created for the game to be in our favour,” he said.
According to Okon, there is still need to go back to the drawing board and work on all the players to ensure that they master their role.
“Yes, we won, but we must look inwards to ensure that we put our opponents under pressure in any game,” he said.
Cynthia Aku, an attacker who scored a brace in the 67th and 76th minutes, said that the charge given to them by their Technical Adviser compelled to get the result.
“I’m happy that we won, since last week, our coach has been teaching us how to score more goals and gets points.
“In first half, it was like we didn’t play according to the instructions of the coach, but thank God we got it right in the second half,” she said.
Aku said that her target was to score more goals in the season.
Coach Emmanuel Orabosa of FC Robo, said losing the game in favour of Rivers Angels was not unusual.
“The game is not a bad game. We had our chances to score we couldn’t but they had chances and scored,” he said.
Orabosa said that he had no problem with the 72nd minute penalty against his team because it was the decision of the referee.
“I have no problem with the penalty. It’s the decision of the centre referee and it’s final?,” he said.
Rashidat Ajibade, Captain of FC Robo, said that a team must lose in a game.
“It’s one of those things that happen in a game like this, it’s either you win or lose,” he said.
