Easter: Fun seekers throng Shoprite, Agodi Garden

Agodi Garden, a popular recreation centre as well as Shoprite in Ibadan on Monday, witnessed large turnout of people for the celebration of Easter in spite the economic recession.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that both old and young, including babies were seen at the centres eating, drinking, dining and having fun.

In spite N500 gate entrance fee for adults at the Agodi Garden and N300 to N500 for children to access the playground at Shoprite, many parents still brought their children to celebrate.

Security personnel had hectic day controlling large crowd and managing the traffic jam within the area.

A father, Mr Taiwo Olusola, who brought three of his children, told NAN that he went extra mile to ensure that the children celebrated the season.

“It is not easy for us but we have to make the children happy, they don’t always go out except during festive periods as this.

‘‘We are thanking God, at least, for the sake of life.

“But we must say that it has not been easy at all.

‘‘The government should please do something to deliver us from this hard economic situation; it is really biting harder,” he said.

Also, an expectant mother, Mrs Tope Adeniyi, who brought three of her children, said the family celebrated through God’s grace.

“We still have to celebrate because of the children; this is a holiday and festive period so we don’t have any choice than to celebrate.

“The economic situation is really affecting us,it is just God at work,” she said.

In similar vein, Miss Mercy Opara, an Ibadan resident also expressed concern about the economic recession and high rate of unemployment in the country.

She urged the government to make life bearable for the common man in the country.

Opara, however, thanked God for counting her worthy to be among those alive to witness the 2017 Easter festivities.

Some children, who also spoke with NAN, thanked God and for giving them for life and their parents, the opportunity to celebrate yet another season.

A lot of fun seekers were also seen at major recreation centres along Ibadan metropolis enjoying the celebration.
