The Igbo leader in Ondo State, Mr Titus Umenweke, has advised government at all levels to encourage youths to embrace agriculture in enhancing production of local raw materials.

He said that the measure would go long way to reduce importation of food and take Nigeria out of economic recession.

Umenweke gave this advice on Thursday in Akure at a lecture delivered during the Royal Ambassadors Award and Lecture organised by Royal Ambassadors Magazine and its media partners.

According to Umenweke, agriculture remains the only remedy to the economic recession in Nigeria.

However, he advised Nigerians to plan well and live within their means as part of initiatives to overcome the difficult period in the country.

He emphasized the need for government at all levels to be more proactive about the development of agriculture and ensure that the money budgeted for the agriculture sector was judiciously spent.

The Igbo leader said his nomination for the award was based on the research and assessment of the magazine as one of the foremost non-indigenes, who had immensely contributed to the economic development of the state.

The Regent of Oda town in Akure South Local Government, Oba Olufunmilayo Omoniyi, urged government at all levels to make land available for youths to practise agriculture.

The founder of the Royal Ambassadors Magazine, Mr Odeyemi Odesanmi said that the event was aimed at educating traditional rulers on the need for them to deliberate on national issues that would enhance national development.

Odesanmi noted that Royal Ambassador, a non governmental and non profit making organisation, was aimed at promoting quality leadership.
