NUGA Games: UAM to meet KASU in football opening match

The Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (UAM), hosts of the 2th Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) Games will take on Kaduna State University (KASU) in the football event opening match.

The match, which is part of activities for the opening ceremony of the Games slated for 1 pm on Saturday, will kick off at 4.55 p.m.

According to the programme of events by the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the Games, the universities contingent will feature in a match past which will be preceded by cultural dances, oath taking by athletes and officiating teams.

Dignitaries expected at the opening ceremony include President Muhammadu Buhari, state governors of all participating universities and the Ministers of Sports, Education and Agriculture.

No Minister had yet arrived and it was unclear whether the governors of the states of the participating universities had sent representatives.

The sports fiesta, which is the highest event for Nigeria universities, is slated to hold between April 22 and April 30, with the arrival of athletes on April 19.

Athletes dressed in their sporting gear were seen rehearsing the match past in the morning, ahead of the main event at 1 p.m. on Saturday.

A cross section of the athletes, who expressed satisfaction with the facilities at UAM, also described the weather as friendly and said they were looking forward to an engaging competition.

The usual hot Makurdi weather has given way to a more humid one as the rains set in a few days back, leaving a clement weather for the competition.
