Five members of a family were killed yesterday when a Lexus jeep collided with a motorcycle, along Nkwoedo market in Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that the deceased were heading towards Oraifite, when the driver of vehicle which was approaching from the opposite direction lost control and veered off his lane, killing the motorcyclist and the four passengers, Daily Trust reports.
A witness, who said the victims belong to one family, said they died on the spot while the driver of the vehicle who was carrying two persons quickly alighted and took to their heels, abandoning the car. He said the corpses had been deposited at a nearby hospital morgue.
Confirming the incident, the state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Sunday Ajayi, blamed the accident on over-overloading and traffic violation, describing it as unfortunate.
