Youth Commonwealth Games: Officials in Bahamas for inspection

Officials of the Ministry of Youths and Sports and the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) are in Nassau, Bahamas to inspect facilities for Team Nigeria at the 6th Youth Commonwealth Games.

Nneka Ikem-Anibeze, Special Assistant on Media to the Minister of Youths and Sports, Solomon Dalung, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Sunday.

She said the inspection was one of the requirements for participating countries.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the games is slated to hold from July 19 to July 23.

Ikem-Anibeze said Nigeria would feature 1,000 athletes in nine sports —- aquatics, athletics, rugby sevens, beach volleyball, beach soccer, cycling, boxing, tennis and judo.

She said the team of officials would also have meetings with the host nation ahead of the Commonwealth Youth Games, adding that the inspection would last for three days.

“The participating countries, including Nigeria, will discuss and inspect training facilities available to the teams, as well as accommodation, and the rules and regulations for the Youth Games,” she said.
