The commissioner said that the celebration of World Press Freedom Day was unique due to the critical role of the press in the development of any democracy.

She enjoined the media to push harder to ensure the freedom of the judiciary, stressing that freedom of the press could not be guaranteed if the judiciary was not free.

Archibong said that the theme of this year’s celebration: “Critical minds for critical times; Media role in advancing peaceful, just and inclusive societies”, was apt.

He congratulated Nigerian journalists for nurturing democracy and urged them to continue to keep faith with the country and always strive to report events that would unite the country.
