Nasarawa varsity records 113 fake certificates

The Vice Chancellor, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Prof. Muhammed Akaro-Mainoma, said the institution has recorded 113 cases of fake certificates by students between 2014 and 2016.

Akaro-Mainoma disclosed this in Keffi on Thursday while briefing newsmen ahead of the 5th combined convocation of the institution scheduled for May 6.

He restated his commitment to making the institution a world class and research centre, warning that there is no room for students with fake certificates.

“Before a student will graduate, we have a committee that will screen all WAEC/SSCE results of students and from 2014 to 2016, we discovered 113 cases of fake certificates,’’ he said.

He said that about 30,000 graduates comprising 21,442 undergraduates for seven sessions of 2008 to 2006, and 8,270 postgraduate students would be graduating.

According to him, students who distinguished themselves would receive awards, and prominent Nigerians who also distinguished themselves would be recipients of honorary doctorate degrees.

Akaro-Mainoma said that the institution has 54 academic programmes for undergraduates with eight faculties.

He added that 195 programmes are offered at the Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Masters and Doctor of Philosophy levels.

The vice chancellor said that out of the 45 academic programmes approved by the National Universities Commission, 44 have full accreditation status.

He added that efforts were being made to get nine additional programmes accredited, bringing the total number of academic programmes at the undergraduate level to 54.

Akaro mainoma commended the Nasarawa State Government and TETFUND for contributing to the educational advancement of the institution.

He restated the commitment of the institution to continue to initiate good educational policies and programmes to improve on the welfare of staff and students.
