Court Arraigns 9 Company Staff For Stealing N564,000

Nine company staff, who allegedly stole 2,800 litres of diesel worth N564,000 belonging to their employer, were on Wednesday brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.

The accused are Lucky Agumefa, 44; Ilerioluwa Timothy, 40; Julius Agumefa, 32; Gbenga Adekumola, 34; Olayinka Olawale, 40; and Benjamin Friday, 48.

Others are Vitus Eme, 47; Onyedikachi Ohaukwu, 36; and Temitope Omobonu, 38.

They were arraigned before Magistrate O.I. Raji on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The accused, however, denied the charge and were admitted to a bail of N50,000 each with two sureties each in like sum.

According to the Prosecutor, Insp. George Nwosu, the accused committed the offences on April 23 at Alausa, Ikeja.

Nwosu said the accused conspired and stole 2,800 litres of diesel valued at N564,000 property of Ikeja City Mall.

“The accused, who are engineers and security guards, conspired to steal the company’s diesel.”

Nwosu said the theft was discovered when a management staff intercepted a Ford van loaded with diesel at the gate.

“The receiver of the stolen diesel was caught at the gate while driving out of the complex.”

The offences contravened Sections 287 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused may be jailed three years if found guilty, according to the provisions of Section 287.

The case was adjourned until May 19 for mention.
