The Jigawa Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Tuesday said it had arrested five suspects for alleged theft of laptop computers, cell phones and a motorcycle.

The Spokesman of the command, Mr Adamu Abdullahi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse that the suspects were arrested in Kiyawa and Birninkudu local government areas of the state.

Abdullahi said that the suspects were arrested between May 1 and May 10.

He said that one of the suspects aged 24, was arrested for allegedly stealing a Zongshen motorcycle with Reg. number BKD 329 QH, belonging to one Nasir Yayaha and valued at N150,000.

The spokesperson added that another 28-year-old suspect was arrested in Fatara Housing Estate in Shuwarin town, Kiyawa Local Government Area.

Abdullahi further said that three of the suspects, aged 18, 20 and 22, were arrested in Shuwarin village after they allegedly connived and stole a laptop computer and a mobile phone.

He stated that the suspects were the ones terrorising the residents of Shuwarin and environs.

“During our investigation, we discovered that the suspects used to operate mostly on Mondays.

“This is because they find it easy to dispose the stolen items at the Shuwarin market which holds every Monday.

“We also discovered that one of their accomplices used to come from Kano and buy the stolen items, and we have already launched a man-hunt to arrest him,” he said.

The spokesman added that the suspects, who had confessed to committing the crime, would soon be charged to court.
