The House of Representatives has urged the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to provide relief materials for rainstorm victims at Ihievbe town in Owan East/West Federal Constituency of Edo.
The call was sequel to the unanimous adoption of a motion moved at plenary by Rep. Pally Iriase on Thursday .
Moving the motion, Iriase said a devastating rainstorm had hit parts of the constituency on May 3, destroying houses, electric poles and other properties.
The legislator said that Ivbiele Primary School, Obokhoduma Primary School and Ihievbe Grammar School were worst affected, adding that more than 100 other houses in Ihievbe community had been destroyed.

According to him, many families have been rendered homeless and are now living in make-shift shelters and were susceptible to the vagaries of the weather.
Iriase said that if relief does not reach the victims quickly, many lives may be lost.
The house urged the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) to rehabilitate the power lines in the area and restore power supply.
The Speaker of the House, Mr Yakubu Dogara, mandated the Committee on Emergency and Disaster Preparedness to take necessary steps to ensure compliance.
