Over 5,000 residents of Epe area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria have benefited from the free medical screening of the Lagos State Government.
During the three days screening, several ailments were attended to. Sure ailments include  diabetes, hypertension, eye defects, HIV,  among others.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State had directed the state health ministry to conduct the the free health screening and treatment of residents on HIV/AIDs and other deadly diseases.
Speaking at the screening and treatment at Epe Local governments on Wednesday, Programme  Coordinator, Eko Free Health Mission, Dr Dolapo Fasawe said that the exercise was part of the strategies of the current administration to touch lives across the state in addition to the infrastructural development in the axis.
Fasawe stated at the screening which covered all aspect of health, that there was ambulance which took care of beneficiaries in need emergency attention.
She said that specific attention was given to beneficiaries who were screened for HIV, hypertension, dental and eye, adding that they were equally counselled on the management of their various ailments in addition to drugs given to them by the free health mission agents.
“We are here based on the directive of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who has been fulfilling his electoral  mandate in all the sectors in the state. While he has given us the directive to carry out the health screening, we are ‎carrying out this programme across all the Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas.
We have observed a lot of people with diabetes, hypertension, HIV/AIDS and other cases and necessary actions have been taken accordingly,” she said.
She added that in addition to knowing their health status, many of the beneficiaries were also educated on how to prevent some diseases and how to discover the symptoms of various terminal ailments.
The medical expert said that over 2,000 were attended to on Tuesday,  explaining  that the free screening and treatment exercise would reduce the population of people, who storm the General Hospital for some minor diseases.
