Mrs Asma’u Idris, Wife of Inspector-General of Police on Thursday vaccinated wives and children of police officers against Cerebro Spinal Meningitis (CSM) in Niger.

Mrs Idris, also the President of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), launched the awareness campaign on meningitis outbreak in Minna.

She said that the programme was part of the I-GP’s welfare package for families of police officers across the country.

She advised women to always keep their environment clean, avoid over-crowding and sleep in well ventilated places.

“You should always be hygienic and report any suspected case to the appropriate authority.

“Since the outbreak of the disease, we cannot afford to see wives and children of our police officers being affected.

“I urged you as mothers, to ensure that you keep your environment clean and ensure adequate ventilation in your homes,” she said.

Earlier, Mrs Zubairu Mu’azu, Wife of the Niger Commissioner of Police and State Chairman of POWA, commended the wife of the I-GP for initiating the CSM vaccination for wives and children of police officers in the state.

She listed some of the association’s achievements in the state to include training of police officers wives on different skills acquisition and empowering them to become self-reliant.

Mu’azu added that the association also embarked on health awareness campaign and cancer screening for women.

Mrs Mary Inyang, the Wife of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in Charge of Training, also attended the occasion.
