The Emir of Hadejia in Jigawa, Alhaji Adamu Abubakar, has restated his council’s support to the police, to enhance security network in the state.

Abubakar stated this when the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Rashid Akintunde, paid him a courtesy visit on Wednesday in Hadejia.

Abubakar, who is also the chairman of the Jigawa State Council of Chiefs, said community leaders would cooperate with the police to ensure protection lives and property.

“We continue to cooperate with security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct of the local council election in the state,” he said.

The emir admonished the people to live in peace and harmony for sustainable development of the state, adding that peacebuilding is a collective responsibility.

He also called on politicians to shun acts capable of disrupting the peace and contribute toward the conduct of the free, fair and peaceful election.

Also speaking, Akintunde said the command had embarked on sensitisation activities to create awareness on the election processes.

Akintunde disclosed that the exercise was designed to educate candidates and electorates on the need to respect electoral laws and maintain peace.

According to him, the command would conduct similar exercises in the 27 local government councils of the state.

Participants drawn from political parties, civil society organisations, youth and women groups as well as other stakeholders attended the exercise.
