A 26-year-old meat seller, Kadejo Taiwo, who allegedly assaulted a Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) officer with a cutlass, was on Friday remanded in prison custody.

Taiwo, of no fixed address, is facing a charge of assault before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun.

The prosecutor, Cpl. Mustapha Abdulkareem, told the court that the accused committed the offence on April 27 at about 5.30p.m. at Atan, Agbara Junction, Ota.

Abdulkareem said that the accused assaulted the TRACE official in the course of discharging his duty by inflicting injury on his head with a cutlass.

He said that the offence contravened Section 356(6) of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun, 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs A. I. Adelaja, ordered that the accused should be remanded in Abeokuta prison.

The case was adjourned until July 5 for hearing.
