Commission reaffirms commitment to educate orphans in State

The Sokoto State Zakkat and Endowment Commission on Monday restated its commitment to ensure that all orphans in the state were enrolled in school.

Malam Lawal Maidoki, the Chairman of the commission, made the assertion in Rabah
District, Sokoto, during the distribution of Zakkat (support items) for Ramadan and Eid-el-Fitri to indigent people and orphans in the area.

Maidoki said: “The state government is fully committed to ensuring better education for pupils in the state, hence, the declaration of a state of emergency in the sector.

“Free education has been declared across the state to ensure that all children with or without parents are enrolled in various schools.

“Moreover, any orphan who cannot afford school uniforms will be given free by the Zakkat Commission.”

He called on parents in the state to ensure that their children attend school regularly in order to produce a better and productive generation.

Maidoki also advised wealthy individuals to give out Zakkat and endowment as enshrined in Islam and support the government’s commitment to helping the needy and orphans.

Earlier, the District Head of Rabah, Alhaji Muhammadu Bello, said that the District Zakkat Committee received 3,854 bundles of millet, four bags of rice, two bags of wheat, four goats and N 452,000 cash.

He commended the state government’s efforts at easing the sufferings of the less privileged and the orphans in the state.
