Kaduna Govt. spent N6.5bn on school infrastructure — Commissioner

The Kaduna State Government said on Thursday that it expended N6.5 billion on school infrastructure in the Southern Kaduna Senatorial District.

The state Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Andrew Nok, made this known at Government Girls Science, Kwoi, while inaugurating the distribution of textbooks to secondary schools in the area.

Nok explained that the money was spent on school renovation and the provision of other infrastructure, to improve the quality of teaching and learning.

“Addressing school infrastructure is key in influencing the standard of education in the state and students’ performance is central to government policy on education.

“This is why we are making every effort to provide all the needed facilities to enhance teaching and learning in our schools.”

Nok said that N200 million was spent on phase one renovation of G.G.S.S. Kwoi, the venue of the event.

He further said that all schools would be renovated and be provided with chairs and other facilities that would ensure quality teaching.

The commissioner also said that all laboratories in secondary schools would be modernised.

He explained that the books being distributed cover all core subjects and were procured at the cost of N600 million.

He said that the books were for all secondary schools in the state, to enhance teaching and learning.

In her remarks, the Principal, Mrs Ruth Dowoh, thanked the state government for the intervention in the education sector.

Dowoh said that all classes and laboratories in the school had been renovated, adding that four of the school’s six hostels had also been renovated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commissioner had earlier launched the distribution of books in the Northern and Central Zones.
