Teenager Remanded For Stealing From Accident Victims

An Ikeja Magistrate’s’ Court in Lagos on Thursday ordered the remand of a 19- year-old boy at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa for allegedly obstructing traffic, causing an accident and robbing the victims.

The Magistrate, Mrs G.O Anifowoshe, said the accused should be kept behind bars, pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), on the case.

The accused, Noa Salman, who gave no fixed address, had appeared on a one-count charge of intent to commit felony.

The plea of the accused was, however, not taken.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Victor Eruada, had told the court that the accused had committed the offence on June 11 at the Lagos/Ibadan Express Way, inward Lagos.

He alleged that Salman suddenly threw a pole on the road, with intent to steal and caused a Mazda bus with registration number XQ 385 PMN to ram into it and somersaulted.

“As the passengers were struggling to come out of the bus, the accused came around and was demanding for their belongings, trying to steal from the victims.

“While they were struggling with the accused, a team of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) patrol team came and rescued them and arrested Salman.
Eruada said that the offence contravened Section 311 of the Criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.

The case has been adjourned till July 3, for file consolidation, duplication and receipt of legal advice.
