A 47-year-old woman, Bosede Ayodele, on Thursday approached a Customary Court in Ikole-Ekiti, seeking divorce from her husband of 20 years.

Bosede, who  told the court that her husband, Femi, was in the habit of beating her, recalled that he recently assaulted her in a market square in Ayebode-Ekiti.

The plaintiff claimed free dissolution of the marriage, saying she had  never been able live together  with her husband  because of  his aggressive attitude.

” I have been living in my grandfather’s house since we got married because of my husband’s constant  beating.

” My husband had once beaten me and I was hospitalised for days.

“The last beating from my husband was because he said I should neither greet nor associate with one of his family members.

“ He then saw the man’s wife with me in the market,’’ she said.

She added that she could no longer cope with her husband’s unbearable attitude, praying the court to separate them.

The estranged wife also prayed for the custody of their last child, saying the  first child could continue to live with her father’s relative while the second, a boy, should continue to stay with his father.

The respondent  urged the court to grant his wife’s request,  alleging that she  was having extra-marital affairs.

The President of the three-man panel, Mrs Yemisi Ojo, after listening  to both parties, urged the couple to give peace a chance.

She adjourned the case till July 10 for judgment.
