The Lagos State Government through the Lagos Water Corporation has charged the corporation’s staff to be committed to the Performance Enrichment Programme, PEP.

Commissioner for the Environment, Dr. Samuel Adejare gave this charge at the launching of the High Impact, Short Term, Quick Win Performance Enrichment Programme, Information Technology (ICT) Strategic Plan and Lagos Water News (LWC Newsletter) at the Water House, Ijora, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

Adejare, who was represented the Director of Environment Sanitation, Ministry of the Environment, Dr. Iyabo Phillips said the State was fully in support of the Corporation’s efforts towards provision of potable water to Lagosians, while commending the Corporation for the laudable project.

In his speech, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Lagos Water Corporation, Engr. Muminu Badmus, said “the programme is a tool intended to accelerate the transformation of the corporation towards meeting its aspirations, goals and objectives”.

The LWC boss said the corporation had in the past, employed a series of strategies to improve efficiency and increase revenue generation, but to no avail.

Badmus further stated that the Corporation changed its approach and decided to partner with consultants who were well grounded and efficient in using modern business models to support our transformation journey.

“The model, PEP, would improve collection efficiency, as well as overall performance in the corporation,’’ he said.

Badmus reiterated that the PEP was built around five key principles-change in attitude, effective leadership, accountability framework, performance target and monitoring and evaluation.

He said that PEP would focus on the maximization of sales, improving collection rate, staff productivity, capacity utilization and response time to customer complaints and the debt reduction rate and water losses.

He signed a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the Corporation’s Head of Business Streams and Regional Business Managers to show commitment to effective service delivery to customers, improvement in revenue, operational efficiency and ensure success of the programme

Others that signed the MOU included the Regional Business Managers and Production Managers, Regional managers and Zonal Team Leaders, respectively.

Badmus said that there would be performance-based allowances and a ground price to be given quarterly.

In his presentation, the Managing Director, 2ML Consulting, Dr. William Murhairwe said the PEP document was produced within three months by the LWC staff and that it focused on achieving success now with what was available.

William said that with PEP, there would be no room for failure, adding that the Consulting firms always partner with organisations that want to improve their image and turn around their operations, he concluded
