The Managing Director, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG), Mr Tony Attah, has commended the management of NIPCO Plc for building the largest Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) storage facility in Africa, to boost domestic supply.
Attah gave the commendation on the sideline during a courtesy visit by the management of NLNG to the company on Tuesday in Lagos.
He described the 5000 metric tonnes storage facility of NIPCO as a very impressive project that will crash the hike in the cost of cooking gas in the domestic market.
According to him, I have never in my wildest imagination believed that this kind of facility exists in Apapa here. The initial picture I have of Apapa is just a congested area.
“But coming here today, I can see that beyond the congestion, there is quite a lot of value being created here for Nigeria and indeed to just see the vantage position that NIPCO has taken being in the forefront with about three or four jetties and receiving both white products and the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).
“I can see also see the huge investment that NIPCO has put into upscale the amount of LPG that they can receive into the country.
“For me, that is a real game changer and we are committed to continue to support NIPCO and indeed Nigeria to bring about the positive change in terms of energy availability for Nigeria,’’ he said.
Attah said that the NLNG will deepen its partnership with NIPCO to boost domestic supply and product availability to Nigerians.
He said that the company will ensure that more products will be available at the facility once the ongoing jetties expansion is completed.
The NLNG boss, however, urged other LPG companies to expand their terminal facilities in other areas to increase gas supply to the market for adequate consumption.
