Two persons were on Wednesday remanded in custody at the Ilesa Prisons by an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court over the alleged possession of Cannabis sativa, otherwise known as Indian hemp, and some charms.
The accused persons were: Adeleke Nurudeen, 17, and Adeleke Lukman, 16.
They are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and unlawful possession.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubukola Olowolagba, gave the order that the accused be kept in prison custody, due to the magnitude of the offences committed.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Joshua Oladoye, had earlier told the court that the accused committed the offences on July 4, at about 3:30p.m. at Gonmina area of Osogbo.
He said the accused conspired between themselves to have in their possession unlawful substances such as Indian hemp and charms, which they believed could protect man from gunshot wounds.
Oladoye said the offence committed contravened Sections 516, 213, and 430 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 34, Vol. 11, Laws of Osun, 2003.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge levelled against them.
Counsel to the accused persons, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to admit his clients to bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, however, overruled the bail application and ordered the accused persons be kept in prison custody, till the next adjourned date of July 6, for mention.
