A 40-year-old man, Ismaila Ajani, was on Thursday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly beating up an octogenarian for refusing to sleep with him.

The accused, a panel beater, who resides at 1, Tade St., Agidingbi, Ikeja, was charged for assault.

The Prosecutor, Sergeant Joseph Ajebe, told the court that the offence was committed on June 26 at Agidingbi, Ikeja.

He said that the accused was passing by and saw the complainant, 80-year-old woman, lying down in front of her house around 8.30 p.m.

“The accused went to her and told her he wanted to lay with her; the woman refused, tried to push him and he started beating her.

“If not for the woman’s sister, who came to the scene, the accused would have beaten her to stupor,” the prosecutor said.

Ajebe said that the scream of the woman’s sister alerted the neighbours and the accused was apprehended.

He said offence contravened Section 171 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused, however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Alexander Komolafe granted the accused N50, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case until July 17 for mention.
