The Enugu State House of Assembly on Thursday passed the amended Enugu State Universal Basic Education Bill.

The bill was passed following the consideration of the report on the bill presented during plenary by the Joint Committee on Education, Science and Technology, Gender Affairs and Social Development, Judiciary, Public Petitions, Ethics and Privileges.

The Chairman, Assembly Committee on Education, Mr. Matthew Ugwueze, while presenting the report, explained that the UBE, which earlier covered primary education, had been expanded to include Junior Secondary School (JSS).

In his remarks, the Speaker of the assembly, Chief Edward Ubosi, commended the committee and other members for a job well done.

Ubosi said that the passage of the bill would help boost basic education in the state.

The assembly adjourned sitting to July 18.
