Family of late Kano NUJ chairman gets food items, cash donation

Haruna died on Wednesday, July 5, at his Giginyu residence after a protracted illness.

Abubakar-Gwarzo presented the items when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the deceased at Giginyu quarters in Kano metropolis on Monday.

The items included: five bags of rice, five cartons of Macaroni, five cartons of spaghetti, one 50 litre jerry can of vegetable oil and N100,000 cash.

He said that the decision to donate the items was to support the family at this time when the assistance is most needed.

Abubakar-Gwarzo described the late journalist as a gentle and humble person, who contributed to the development of journalism profession in the country during his lifetime.

He prayed God to grant the deceased eternal rest and the family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

Abubakar-Gwarzo promised to look into the possibility of awarding scholarship to some of the children of the deceased to pursue their studies up to the university level.

“We are looking at the possibility of awarding scholarship to some of his children to enable them continue with their studies up to the university,” he said.

Responding, the elder brother of the deceased, Alhaji Usman Bappa, lauded Abubakar-Gwarzo for the gesture and prayed God to reward him abundantly.

Abubakar-Gwarzo had earlier paid a similar visit to the family of the late diplomat, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule, who died on July 3, in Cairo, Egypt.
