A Federal High Court sitting in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 30-year-old farmer, James Longbut, to three years imprisonment for unlawful possession of narcotic drug.
Longbut was arraigned on a charge of unlawful possession of 1.9 kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa, a narcotic drug similar to cocaine.
He pleaded guilty to the crime and begged for mercy, saying he would never be involved in drugs again.
The Judge, Justice Dorcas Agishe, in a summary trial, sentenced the accused without option of fine
The Prosecuting counsel, Sarah Oketola, had told the court that the convict was arrested on March 15, at Kending Darten Shendam Local Government Area in Plateau.
Oketola said that the offence contravened section 20(c) and was punishable under sub-section 2(b) of the NDLEA Act Cap N 30 LFN (Laws of Federation Nigeria) 2004.
