Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam of Yobe said on Wednesday that the Islamic and Christian Preaching Control Committees had been revived, to regulate preaching activities across the state.
Gaidam made this known when he received Dr Jeremiah Gado, the President of Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), who paid him a courtesy visit in Damaturu.
“This is in conformity with Section 3 (1) and (3) of the Yobe State Religious Preaching Control Edict, 1994.
“The purpose of the edict is to regulate preaching and ensure that only authorised persons are allowed to preach in mosques, churches and other public places, to avoid the breakdown of public peace.”
He said that his administration was committed to promoting inter and intra-religious harmony and peaceful co-existence among the various Ethno-religious groups in the state.

According to him, the committees will determine and regulate the qualifications required and issue preaching licences.
He urged religious bodies to educate their followers on the importance of adherence to the law to ensure harmonious co-existence.
Earlier, the ECWA President said the church was also committed to promoting peace and peaceful co-existence among the various groups in the state.
“I want to assure you that the church will support and partner with you on preaching the gospel of peace and unity among the ethnic and religious groups in the state.”
Gad presented a copy of the Bible to Gaidam so that he could be guided in the administration of the state and service to the people.
