The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Bayelsa says it is committed to making its operations friendly, to guarantee quality service.

Mr. Ikechukwu Igwe, the Sector Commander, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Yenagoa.

The Commander, who spoke against the backdrop of the July 14 workshop that attracted other security agencies in the state, emphasised the importance of more synergy among them.

He said that the agencies that participated included the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), the Police, Army, the Nigeria Immigration Service, Prison Service as well as the media and government officials.

Igwe said that the approach would ensure the safety of lives and property on the roads.

He said that the one day workshop organised by the corps focused on how personnel should be friendly to motorists in order to attract their cooperation.

“The drivers should know that we are here to serve and not to harass them; we are here to enforce the rules and regulations guiding the use of roads.

“In the workshop, we also talked about collaboration among the security agencies in the state.

“It was an opportunity for the corps and sister agencies to interact and outline the way forward for quality service delivery.”

Igwe, who took over from Mr. Wobin Gora, gave an assurance that he would consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor.

“I am impressed with the structure that my predecessor had put in place; I am going to consolidate on it for the smooth enforcement of safety rules on the road.”

In a separate interview, Dr. Spero Jack, the Special Assistant to Gov. Seriake Dickson on Security Matters, commended the FRSC for organising the workshop.

Jack suggested quarterly meeting among the security agencies in the state for better service delivery.

“The workshop should be done at least quarterly to discuss the way forward in the fight against crimes and criminality.

“There is a need for improved synergy among security personnel in the state on information gathering and sharing,” he said.
