The Anambra Government on Sunday organised a training programme on smoked fish processing, preservation and export for fish farmers aimed at boosting their capacity in line with global best practices.

The training was organised by the state Fishery Revolution in collaboration with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council at Ogbunike, near Onitsha.

Addressing the farmers, the Special Assistant to the State Governor on Fishery, Mr Emeka Iloghalu, reiterated the state government’s commitment to increasing agricultural produce in the state.

Iloghalu said the training with the theme “Smoked Fish Processing for Export in line with International Best Practices” aimed to educate the participants on the best ways to process fish for export.

Mr Afolabi Bello, the Trade Promotion Officer, Nigerian Export Promotion Council, urged the Trainees to take advantage of the huge opportunity in exporting smoked fish to Europe.

Bello described the training as “apt,” and called on the participants to ensure that they followed the appropriate fish processing method.

One of the participants, Mrs Favour Uche-Okonkwo, commended the state government for organising the training, saying the initiative had exposed them to different opportunities that abound in fish farming.
